A year and half !

Yellow ! Been a year and half since we last visited this page, and the world's changed quite a bit since then.
Obama's no longer the poster boy that he was in April 2009
Congress party back in power in India, with a bigger margin and bigger losers to run this country
The general populace is using the words "recession" and "depression" much less now, though a section of economists continue to hammer it, to death perhaps
Roger Federer is out of the dumps that he had put himself in around that time and since then has gone on to win 3 more grand slams and break Sampras's record on the way
Tiger woods has been demonised, chastised and subsequently, brought back because golf can't do without him
Button, the loser, who could win his first GP only after over a 100 races, goes on to win the Championship

Well, the list above is not really cohesive and not complete by any stretch but it does give an idea of how much can change in a year and half. But do one and half year really count that much when you look at the larger picture? I mean we all know someone who has gone on a sabbatical, taken a holiday to travel around the world or just killed a year doing what they have always done. Did the year and half and its passage mean that much to them as well, or did it pass by like a number? Given that average human lifespan is around, say 68 years, a year should mean a lot to each one of year! But how many of us really look at it like that? Or is it just me, over-obsessing about it? I think not, I think it is a big deal. But if I sit and worry about a the year that passed by, would I be able to do anything about and in the year that is passing by as we speak?
Vicious circle, dearies ! :-)

I log off now, but I'll surely be back. More often, I promise myself, like always! I have things and thoughts in my mind that I want to share with the world (funny, because hardly anyone will ever see this blog, but one day, people may just start to..it's upto me to get up there :-) cheers fellas ! See you around, now and a year later !

Happy and Gay in the Local !

I heard the phrase 'Long time no see' when I was in 5-6 standard and thought it was the coolest thing to say when meeting someone after a gap ! Guess I am just killing the goose that lays golden eggs (read: the phrase) by starting every post in similar fashion. God, recession hurts creativity as well.

Anyways, a really funny incident happened today in the famous locals. While on daily commute to work on one of the trains, a man (strikingly looking like one of our teachers in college but NOT HIM), wearing Bipasha type "Goggles" happened to look in my directions a couple of times. Little uneasy with this 'aggressive' behavior in otherwise moderate city, I towered above him (poor guy was some 5'6) and returned to listening to some Lady GaGa type music (confession: I like 'poker face', don't kill me pls). Turned out that man had different ideas and kept staring, which was really uncomfortable mind you, till I asked him "Main Sonali Bendre ke jaise dikh raha hoon tere ko?".

Point is I may sit and laugh about it, but spare a thought for those women-folk who have to endure something like this (even worse) on almost a daily basis. Just try putting yourself in that frame of mind where you do not try to make eye contact with anyone while walking lest it be taken otherwise or even make them aware of the 'drama' around them. And we talk about equality for women. I say first ensure them the basic right- to able to go anywhere, anytime with their head held high. That, to me, is modernization. That, to me, is one of the most important pointers of a so-called 'developed nation'. We can make the road, we can make the towers but will we ever be able to provide the women-folk in our country this most basic of all rights ?!?!

Why should you blog !

Ahem ahem ! Well, I should be last person telling you what the title of this post conveys to you (Re the duration between my two previous posts), but its funny that your blog serves as sort of online-diary as well. Umm, since I have never indulged in the practice of keeping a diary, I wouldn't be able to point out the finer details but there's defintiely one thing going in its favor. And that's: instant recollection !!!

I mean, I could muster up enough energy unconsumed by my calorie munching activity of sleeping and generally lazing around TWICE ! Over a period of almost a year !! But i remember exactly what happened on the day I titled my blog "24 and counting", the reason behind the title, the discussion regarding the same and my lofty ideas of where I wanted this blog to be in a year's time (We know where it is, right ;). Hmmm. Similarly, the second post, the fervent discussions of writing a blog and then recollecting that I already have one and then trying to figure out the password.

Not just the event surrounding what was eventually typed on the blog but the ENTIRE DAY ! Its not funny ! It just comes back to you, atleast it came back to me ! Which, I now realise, is an extremely interesting way to keep a tab on daily activities and look back, say 2-3 years, and read this post ! And then think about what I am actually thinking right now.

Why will I want to do that ? I dont know. But I like it. What an idea, sirjee !

24 and counting !!!

Hey,

Let me introduce you to my blog title here first. We'll get down to other things later. The title is an attempt to reflect the intellect, intelligence and worldly knowledge (or to highlight the lack of the same, depends on your perspective) gained by this individual since he can remember. We are not gonna go down to discussing each day but I noticed that of late I started having opinions about various things, strong opinion, backed with solid arguments. And realized that discussing those with someone who reflects back on the same opens your horizon tremendously. You grow up from being the frog in the well to the big sea player.

So, the entire idea was this. Hi, I am Vishal. Today, a corporate lawyer. Tommorrow, God knows. And if you are still here, reading this, Thank you for your patience. Look forward to chatting with you soon.

Cheers !!
